Runner-Ups for the Best of Class Category:

Category #2: Most Unique

Why we liked it: Although the idea itself is not unique, since it reminds one of the game of Risk, it certainly is unique in the world of computer puzzle games. We've certainly never seen another one like it.

Math-A-Maze v1.7 (update)  Details More games at author's website 198 kb Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime Files Freeware 15-Feb-2005
Find your way through a maze of numbers and mathematical operators by carving out equations whose sums equal the required values. Randomly generated mazes of different sizes for unending variety and all skill levels. Another freebie from Reasonable Games! (Now should work on computers with non-English regional settings).

Why we liked it: This is actually one of our own, but has proven very popular and is even used in quite a few school settings. As far as uniqueness goes, it's definitely one of a kind!

Runner-Ups for the Most Unique Class:

Category #3: Toughest Games
These games are not for the faint-of-heart.
They are for those for want to give their brain a real workout!

Falling Formulas v1.8  (update)  Details More games at author's website 215 kb Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime Files Freeware 25-Sep-2004
A tetris clone for thinkers! Form mathematical equations in order to get the blocks to disappear. Falling numbers, operators, equals signs, bombs and more require rapid thinking in order to get the two sides of an equation to match up. CompletelyFreeSoftware called it a "must-have" for Tetris collectors.

What's tough about it: This game will provide you with the ultimate gymnastic workout for your brain. Not only do you need to be able to do lightning-fast math calculations, you have to try and keep track of several formulas in your mind at the same time.

  Domino Dash v1.3  Details Redclaw Games 3.7 mb Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP; P233, 32 mb Ram, DirectX 7.0 $19.95 01-Sep-2004

But these are no ordinary dominos... with 12 different types of dominos to play with, including floaters, tumblers, splitters, and exploders. This game is no pushover! Purchase here and get a free game!

What's tough about it: A very nice game and nice concept. The first set of levels may seem easy, but it will just get you used to the game. The later puzzles are very tough to figure out!

Runner-Ups for the Toughest Games Class:
(Most runner-ups are our own games since people constantly tell us they are HARD!)

Category #4: Best Freeware
The name says it all, these games are great and
they are completely free.  The winners here are some
of our favorites and have had tons of downloads!

  PuzzPower 2.1  Details Home Page 850 kb Win95/98/NT/ME/2000; Pentium 100; 8MB Ram Freeware  01-Aug-2003
PuzzPower is a puzzle game, based on the 'ice' parts from Chips & Challenge, and the graphics look a lot like Supaplex. It contains 30 levels, which are split in 3 big parts: Easy, Medium and Hard. Each part contains 10 levels, and though the last ones are really hard, the game's learning curve is really good and it'll teach you how to save them slowly.

Why we liked it: We're not sure what is so appealing about the game, but it just makes for a very enjoyable puzzle-solving experience: simple but appealing graphics and animation, simple rules and game-play but with challenging puzzles. The only drawback is that there is only 30 levels.

Brix v1.0  Details 32 kb DOS game (seems to work well under Windows) Public Domain 01-Dec-2002
A visual puzzle game in which you have to move matching picture blocks together (vertically or horizontally) in order to blast them away. There should be no icons left, or the problem is not solved. Sometimes it is necessary to put together three icons at once!

Why we liked it: Another great game in the "Visual-Puzzle" category and this one is free. The graphics are decent and the puzzles challenging. Similar games in the shareware category cost $20 or more.

The Key v1.54, Parts I, II & III  Details Home Page Download Page - 130 mb Win 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP; VB6 Runtimes Freeware 01-Dec-2002
All 3 parts are now available of this large, Myst-like science fiction graphical adventure game. Can you find The Key which has been lost on the planet Arcadia? The Key is needed to restart a machine that will allow the exiles to defeat the powerful empire that is trying to destroy them.

Why we liked it: It's hard to find a good, free adventure game that contains great graphics and provides good, clean family entertainment from start to finish. The Key is one such games and we appreciate the Christian World View built into the game. It also comes with hints built into the game.
