| The Key is a graphical adventure, with an interface similar to that of Myst,
which takes place in the late 22nd Century. Earth has just begun exploring the
galaxy when you, the pilot of the starship Explorer 7, are contacted by an
unknown alien race called the Exiles.
The Exiles tell you that they are at war with a powerful Empire which is
trying to destroy them -- and if the Empire wins the war, they will easily crush
Earth as well. The Exiles could win the war easily if they could just restart a
machine in the heart of the Galaxy, but the machine is so old that no one knows
where it is anymore -- and even if they did know where it was it wouldn't help
them because the Key to the machine is lost.
The Exiles know that the Key is on the planet Arcadia, but there is a barrier
around that planet, erected by the Empire they are fighting, that they cannot
pass through. Only a human from Earth could visit Arcadia and find the key --
and hence they ask you to go to Arcadia and find it for them. There is only one
problem: once you are under the barrier, you are on your own, for the Exiles
cannot go under the barrier and take you back home...
